10:00am - 12:00pm

The day begins with one of Harlem Hafla's most sought-after instructors, Yasser Darwish, of Alexandria, Egypt. Yasser will lead a workshop in a native Egyptian topic which was part of his upbringing: Nubian Dance! This centuries-old, folkloric dance is created by the Southern-Egyptian and present-day Sudanese Nubians. It is most typically seen in their social gatherings like weddings and other large family celebrations. The Nubian people have kept their dance culture alive using their own tribal movements, instruments, multiple languages and rhythms which are differ greatly from those performed by the Egyptian Arabs. Bring your sense of joy to this unisex workshop! Yasser will lead the class through steps which may be used for groups or soloists wanting to add the unique style of the Nubians to their movement vocabularies. Suggested for the ladies: please bring a sturdy veil or long head covering and a few clamp style hair pins to help get into character.

Workshop Price: $45.00.

Early Bird Price: $40.00.

12:30 - 2:30pm

Ala Nar Choreography: This workshop is a great introduction to the Jamila and Suhaila Salimpour repertoire of movement, as expressed in a fun, upbeat and modern choreography to the song 'Ala Nar'. We will learn a choreography suitable for all skill levels, with fun optional level increases for those looking for a challenge. It's groovy and grounded with big, luscious hip work that will be as fun to perform as it is to watch. Get ready for a little sweat and a lot of sass! This workshop will leave you 'On Fire!'

Workshop Price: $45.00.

Early Bird Price: $40.00.
